United States demands fresh probe of African Development Bank’s president, Akinwunmi Adesina



The United States Department of Treasury has requested an independent investigation into allegations leveled against the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina.

Some staff of the AfDB had accused Adesina of 20 breaches of the bank’s code of conduct, including “unethical conduct, private gain, an impediment to efficiency, preferential treatment, and involvement in political activities”. The bank’s ethics committee carried out an independent investigation headed by Takuji Yano and cleared Adesina, insisting he was not guilty on all counts.

However, in a letter by US Treasury Secretary, Stephen Mnuchin dated 22nd May and addressed to Niale Kaba, chair of AfDB’s board of governors, rejected the findings by the ethics committee of the bank that “totally exonerated” Adesina and has called for a deeper investigation. The US Treasury owns the largest non-African stake in the bank.

Breaking! Nigerian troops rescue 241 women and children from Boko Haram captivity (photos)

Troops attached to Sector 1 of Operation LAFIYA DOLE have rescued 241 kidnapped victims from Boko Haram captivity in Mudu village in Borno state. A statement released by the Defence headquarters today May 28, says the kidnapped victims were rescued during an operation on May 23. The rescued victims comprises of 105 women and 136 children. The statement adds that Twelve (12) Boko Haram terrorists were killed during the operation. In a related development, troops of 151 Battalion on May 24 killed three more sect members during a crossfire in Firgi area in the state.  In the same vein, troops of the 155 Battalion Banki Junction carried out exploitation operation towards Sambisa forest in pursuit of fleeing BHTs. BREAKING: Lagos discharges seven coronavirus patients Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos providing update on coronavirus The Lagos State Government has announced the discharge of seven coronavirus patients in the state after they tested negative twice to the virus.
